The Heraldry of the nobility and gentry of Gozo (from medieval times up until the onset of British rule) which will be delivered by Lt. Colonel Charles A. Gauci RAMC (Retd)
The speaker will talk about a number of families belonging to the nobility and gentry established in Gozo in days gone by describing the role they played in society and show their coats of arms. It will include families of the Maltese nobility who were granted fiefs in Gozo as well as locally established Gozitan families.
Dr. Charles Gauci is a consultant in Pain Medicine who has retired to Gozo after a career working in the UK, first in the British Army, where he rose to the rank of Lt. Colonel and then in the NHS. He has been very active on the international medical scene seeing patients and teaching colleagues all around the world; for this he was created a Count by the Crown Prince of Georgia. He has always been interested in the history of the nobility in Malta and has written several books on the genealogy and heraldry of the nobility. Now that he lives in Gozo he has started to research the history of the local nobility and this lecture is the fruit of that research.
The venue is the Santa Cecilia Chapel and lecture starts at 6:30pm. Requests for seat reservations can be sent to or on this website.
